With all the celebrity engagements being announced lately, you’d think there must be something in the water. Russian tennis princess Maria Sharapova just got engaged to boyfriend Sasha Vujacic of the L.A. Lakers after nearly a year together. The basketball star, also Russian-born, popped the question to the three-time Grand Slam champ in his Manhattan Beach, Calif., home and busted out a $250,000 stunner to make it official. Jewelry experts report the engagement ring appears to be a cushion-cut diamond of approximately 7 to 8 carats on a split-shank platinum band. Vujacic apparently did the ring shopping all on his own, with Sharapova quipping, “Thank goodness my fiance has great taste!” (And a big bank account.)
