At first blush, Tobey seems to be an unlikely choice as the new face of Prada’s Fall menswear campaign. Mainly due to the fact that he basically fell off the “biz” radar when the Spider Man trilogy ended, and also considering he has never exactly been considered a heartthrob, per say. But in describing this unexpected, unconventional choice, head-honcho Miuccia Prada is quoted in The Hollywood Reporter as saying: “…his mood is transfixed and pensive, full of vibrant intensity and mystery.” (hmmm…never thought of him that way, but she’s right.) Meanwhile, for his part, the new model is also unexpectedly a big fan of the Prada head: “Miuccia Prada has inspired a culture of creativity that is woven through every aspect of her company, from her collections, her campaigns, to every design detail in her stores,” the actor recently said. He added that he has the utmost admiration for her artistry and he’s thrilled to be a part of Prada’s fall campaign.
Though he’s hung up his spidey suit to a new generation, Toby’s getting back into the movie game with a new, more dramatic picture, as he was just cast in the film adaptation of the Ang Lee novel-to-film Life of Pi for Fox. He’ll play the reporter who interviews the story’s main character as a man as he recalls his extreme childhood experience of surviving a shipwreck on a lifeboat with a zebra, an orangutan, a hyena and a tiger. This, and his role in Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby (set for a Summer 2012 release) opposite Isla Fisher, Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan could get Tobey back on the A-list.
