The MTV Video Music Awards are usually an eclectic event to begin with, but Beyonce managed to upstage the 28th annual VMAs with her belly during the pre-show festivities. The 29-year-old superstar revealed that she’s expecting her first child with rap sensation husband Jay-Z on the red carpet, where she wore an orange gown by French design house Lanvin. She let the rest of the world in on her secret later that night, when she hit the stage in a purple sequined D&G blazer to belt out “Love on Top.” In case you missed it, Beyonce ripped open the jacket to reveal her baby bump at the end of her performance, rubbed her belly and repeated the news she shared earlier, obviously delighting 41-year-old Jay-Z in the audience.
The event shattered Twitter’s record of the highest number of tweets sent per second: a whopping 8,868. “BEYONCE IS PREGNANT” became a huge Trending Topic on Twitter, and the world hasn’t yet recovered from the news.
