Happy Birthday to you…Jen turned 42 yesterday and, quite frankly, she looks fab. But, unfortunately she got some not-so-happy birthday presents on her big day. The star kicked off her 42nd birthday with another rom-com, Just Go With It, costarring Adam Sandler, Brooklyn Decker and Nicole Kidman. In the flick, Sandler plays a plastic surgeon who enlists his assistant (Aniston) to pretend to be his ex-wife in an elaborate ruse to woo a sexy young teacher (Decker). Despite the star power, the film–and Jen’s performance got panned by the critics, using terms like “smaltzy romantic comedy” and “So noxious.” Oh so harsh. Roger Ebert said “The people in this movie are dumber than a box of Tinkertoys…” Adds the New York Post: “Aniston…has a gift for playing every dismal role the same bland, 8-pm-on-NBC way…Everyone should be offended by the time-annihilating suckage of this mirth void.” And Rolling Stone’s Peter Travers sniped: “Don’t even think of going with it. It’s the perfect Valentine’s date night movie, but only with someone you hate.”
Oh well, at least the foxy 42-year-old made a triumphant appearance on the red carpet upon arriving at the New York premiere of the panned flick in a jaw-dropping black strapless Dolce & Gabbana stunner with wrapped bodice and sheer skirt. Drool-worthy Gucci heels, Burberry clutch, and Fred Leighton jewels completed her luxe look. And she can always focus on the successful launch of her eponymous scent (formerly called “Lolavie”) which hit U.S. stores just Thursday–a fragrance she worked hard with pros to come up with that evokes her own memories of growing up in Southern California. Her SoCal roots certainly shine through in these fantastic melange-hued Tom Ford shades, available in four frame tones. –rpuccia
