Celebs have turned to Twitter to offer their sentiments following the devastation in Japan. “So devastating to hear about the huge earthquake & tsunami [in] Japan. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone there,” tweeted Glee’s Lea Michele.
Born Lea Michele Sarfati, the 24-year old actress and singer began working professionally as a child on Broadway, performing in productions including Ragtime, Les Mis and Fiddler on the Roof. She played the role of Wendla in Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik’s musical version of Spring Awakening and currently stars as Rachel Berry, the star singer of a high school glee club on the hit Fox series Glee. The role has helped her nab a Screen Actors Guild Award for outstanding ensemble performance as well as the 2009 Satellite Award for best actress. She also received nominations for an Emmy Award, two noms for a Golden Globe Award, and a Teen Choice Award for her performance as Rachel. Michele’s cover of The All-American Rejects’ “Gives You Hell” reached the top 40 on the US Billboard 200 and she is the featured lead singer in 14 of the top 20 selling Glee songs as of 2010.
