The Grammy Awards 2014 took place on Janurary 26th at the Staples Center, Los Angeles.
Grammy 2014 performers
The 56th edition of the Grammy Awards was one of remembrance and celebration. Husband and wife Beyonce and Jay-Z got together on stage to sing “Drunk in Love”. The opening act was amazing as always, despite rumors that Beyonce may be pregnant with their second child. The couple were nominated for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, but lost.
It was the first time in five years that the surviving Beatles members, Paul McCartney & Ringo Starr, reunited on stage, performing’s McCartney’s single “Queenie Eye“.
Metallica performed their 80s hit, “One”, from their first Grammys 25 years ago. This time, classical piano player Lang Lang accompanied them on stage. The band was nominated for Best Recording Package, but didn’t win.
Other performers on stage included Billie Joe Amstrong & Miranda Lambert, Bruno Mars, Daft Punk, Nile Rogers, Pharrell & Stevie Wonder, Katy Perry, Keith Urban, Kendrick Lamar, Lorde, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Madonna,Pink and Nate Ruess, Robin Thicke and Chicago and Taylor Swift.
Grammy 2014 red carpet
Nominated for Best Album, Best Country Song, Best Country Album, and Best Country Duo/Group Performance, Taylor Swift went home with no awards. She must have found that hard to believe, given her reaction when the winner for Best Album was announced. Apparently, the singer’s jaw dropped a little when she heard. However, Taylor got one thing right: her stunning gold Gucci dress, which looked absolutely royal.
Steven Tyler became the talk of the press with his red carpet look. The Aerosmith frontman wore a white suit and bowtie, but more importantly, a mustache. Many though his facial hair looked inappropriate, and much too pirate-like. But if Jared Leto can do it, why can’t Steven?
Ryan Lewis and Macklemore were nominated for Song of the Year and Best New Artist, winning the latter. The two appeared in matching outfits on the red carpet, Lewis in a black and silver houndstooth suit, with loafers, and Macklemore in a blue suit, with loafers and a bowtie. Well done.
Madonna was more covered that usual, in a black suit with wide leg pants, a cane and wide hat, as well as a grill. The focus was sparkly hand piece and bling rings reading “me”. Her son, David, wore a matching suit, which made the whole thing ok. A similar pair were Yoko Ono and Sean Lennon, who both wore suits, although of the more eccentric type.
Katy Perry wowed in a princess gown with musical notes, which was designed by Valentino Couture. With a sleek braided bun, the singer was all smiles and glamor. Katy was accompanied by boyfriend John Mayer on the red carpet. She was nominated for Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance.
One of the most gorgeous gowns of the evening was spotted on Keltie Knight, and it was ethereal. The dress was designed by Paolo Sebastien Couture, and it featured tons of bead-work. The TV host used her Instagram account to document the whole evening, so check it out for her inside scoop.
