Johnny Depp is undoubtedly one the hottest men in Hollywood. But he hasn’t been putting his “best foot forward” lately sporting shaggy facial hair. Well ladies, rejoice, he finally emerged clean-shaven last week at Narita airport in Tokyo, Japan, in his signature garb–trademark shades (love the fabulous purple lenses), hat, scarf and multiple necklaces.
JD is promoting his new animated film Rango–which hit theaters yesterday–opposite Isla Fisher and Ned Beatty. He voices a chameleon named Rango who lives in a terrarium and constantly seeks to fit in with his surroundings. Rango finds himself removed from his contemporary American southwest surroundings and ends up in an Old West town in the middle of the Mojave Desert called Dirt, which is populated by various desert critters dressed like characters out of Western fiction. Thinking himself a hero, Rango establishes himself as the town’s Sheriff, not knowing that people who have held that title do not fare very well in Dirt. Rango, in turn, comes to question everything about himself.
Next up for Johnny: reprising his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides–the fourth film in the Pirates series–opposite Geoffrey Rush and Penelope Cruz due out in May. You’ll also catch him in the independent film, Rum Diary, with Amber Heard and Giovanni Ribisi. Based on the novel of the same name, Rum Diary chronicles the antics of a journalist (JD) who tires of New York and America under the Eisenhower administration and travels to Puerto Rico to write for The San Juan Star, where he begins the habit of drinking rum and becomes obsessed with the woman. Hmmm, sounds promising. –rpuccia
