In the wake of the shocking emotional breakdown and a stint in rehab, 18-year-old Disney darling Demi Lovato finally broke her silence in the latest issue of Seventeen mag. The Camp Rock star reveals her breakup with Joe Jonas last summer took a huge toll on her, as did her her growing distance from best friend and fellow Disney starlet,  Selena Gomez. And worst of all, her anxiety, eating disorders, and the never-ending pressure to be perfect caused her whirl-wind life to come to a screeching halt. Although she was exhausted and in desperate need of a break, she told the mag she felt obligated to keep pushing herself to make “Camp Rock 2” a success. “I was really bad off,” she said, noting that she reached her boiling point during the movie’s concert tour when she punched a backup dancer. “I basically had a nervous breakdown. My parents and my manager pulled me aside and said, ‘You need to get some help.’ It was an intervention. She went on to say she just wanted freedom from the inner demons–to start her life over.

The road to recovery wasn’t easy. Demi had been battling depression since she was a young kid, and eventually started cutting herself, starving herself, bingeing and purging. Whoa. Luckily, however, the three months she spent in rehab were hard, but successful. She’s also given herself a permanent reminder of her fans’ support by getting the words “stay” and “strong” tattooed on her wrists. “In treatment, all of the negative things I did were stripped away and I had to start processing my feelings. It was really difficult.” Well, Demi’s back,  looking fresh, happy and ready to dazzle once more in these rockin’ Marc Jacobs aviators.  –rpuccia
