At 54, and with a 33 year career behind her (and probably another 33 ahead of her) the singer still hasn’t had enough of scandal and controversy, and her music continues to inspire people all over the world. Madonna is sued the Russians for openly supporting gay rights during a concert in St. Petersburg. The singer might owe as much as $10.5 million for promoting homosexuality to minors (there were 12 year olds at the performance) in a country where it barely became legal in 1993, and it’s still tabu and underground now. ‘Maybe someone does not see the link but after Madonna’s concert maybe some boy becomes gay, some girl becomes lesbian, fewer children are born as a result and this big country cannot defend its borders – for me it causes moral suffering,’ an activist claims. It didn’t help that Madonna showed her support for Russian punk band Pussy Riot either. Young singers Maria Alyokhina and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova have been convicted to 2 years in prison at the end of the summer, because of an anti-Putin protest in a cathedral. The unjust punishment caused scandal in the musical world on the globe, Pussy Riot having support (and notoriety!) everywhere in the world.
