The split was, apparently, a mutual decision.

It looks like last week, Paula Patton told Robin Thicke she wanted to end their marriage. TMZ reports that Thicke abruptly cancelled his show in Atlanta, blaming throat problems, when actually he was heading back to Canada to try and talk things out. Just last month the two made an appearance together at the Grammy Awards, so it’s safe to say the whole thing was sudden.

Patton and Thicke have been together since they were teens, and they have a son, Julian Fuego, who was born in 2010. “We will always love each other and be best friends, however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time,” the couple told the media. Despite the decision being mutual, both parties are upset things didn’t work out.

The couple met in 1991 at an under-21 hip-hop club in Los Angeles, when they also shared their first dance. They began dating two years later, when Robin was 16 and got married in 2005. If you ask us, the whole separation thing may have to do with Robin’s enormous success in the past year – the artist had a bunch of nominations at the MTV Music Awards, Grammy, Teen Choice Awards etc. for Blurred Lines. Meanwhile, Paula has been stagnating with roles like 2 Guns and Baggage Claim.
