Jay-Z is not one for silly social events, but he will cut the ribbon at a sports arena in Brooklyn if necessary! And so he did, with a 1.5 hour gig at the new Barclays Center. After all, he does own a small part of the building and the Brooklyn Nets, which hosts it. This means a lot to the rapper, given that he’s spend his entire life in the neighborhood – in his memoir, Decoded, launched this year, he writes: “I’m from New York, but I didn’t know that at nine. The street signs for Flushing, Marcy, Nostrand, and Myrtle avenues seemed like metal flags to me: Bed-Stuy was my country, Brooklyn my planet.” The show at the end of September was the first out of 8 that Jay-Z played in his hometown, until October 6th – all of them at Barclays Center. Now that’s an opening! Until we find what his next project is (because he has been known to spend time in the studio with Pharell Williams lately…), here’s Beyonce‘s husband wearing camouflage print pants and keyhole Persol sunglasses.
