Rihanna launched her new record, “Unapologetic” on November 20th, with a fan meet and greet at Best Buy. The singer wore an all black leather look with over the knee pants and a turban, Manolo Blahnik heels and cat eye Tom Ford sunglasses – edgy and fashion forward as expected. “She’s the type of artist that makes everybody go outside their comfort zone-she’s not trying to do a song that’s already been done,” says Island Def Jam VP who has worked with her since 2010. The surprise of the album is the duet with Chris Brown, former boyfriend and abuser, which is apparently a feel good dance song, against all expectations. Before releasing the album, Rihanna prepared the audience with a series of seven concerts scattered around the world, on a 777 aircraft. Journalists and a few select others were lucky enough to witness the live performances of the 24 year old singer in a private setting, about one tenth of the size of the venues she usually plays in. However, most journalists complained of lack of sleep, not spending any time with the singer and having to watch the same performance over and over again. To this, Rihanna replied: “Usually I go, go, and go. And this time I had to sleep. Usually I would be back here partying my balls off for y’all but I really had to pay attention and take care of my health because I’m on the plane all the time. I’d f***ing do this again.”
