The producer explains why he chose these particular actors.

50 shades of gray cast

Dakota Johnson & Charlie Hunnam will co-star for the first time.

Ever since it was announced the bestseller is going to be turned into a movie, everyone had their favorites for the cast. Many favored Ryan Gosling for the part of Christian Grey – mostly because they wanted to see as much of his bare abs as possible – but it’s Charlie Hunnam that was selected for the part. You may have seen him in Cold Mountain, Green Street Hooligans or Sons of Anarchy. His Anastasia will be Dakota Johnson, daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, whom you’ve seen in Ben & Kate or 21 Jump Street. But why did the producer choose these relatively unknown young actors?

Dana Brunetti, the producer of the movie, announced in a tweet that it wasn’t a simple choice: “There is a lot that goes into casting that isn’t just looks. Talent, availability, their desire to do it, chemistry with other actor, etc.” Picking Dakota and Charlie was a combination of factors – and it’s not like they’re not both super hot! The author of the book, E.L. James, also addressed the haters on Twitter, saying that she thanks everyone for the passion they put into this project: “You all rock. All of you <3”. The two actors aren’t currently on Twitter, so they didn’t release any sort of quick “statement” so far.

Are you excited to see the movie? You’re gonna have to wait until August 2014…
