One of the movie posters is out and we love it, but we’re also terrified.

Maleficent is based on the 1959 Disney classic cartoon, Sleeping Beauty, but it focuses on Maleficent’s story that leads her to cursing Aurora (to “prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and die” on her sixteenth birthday). In 2014, Maleficent is none other than Angelina Jolie, while innocent Aurora is Elle Fanning. The newly released movie posted features Angelina in green contacts, almost black and white skin, devilish leather horns, a high collar and red lip, just like the original villain had.

But Maleficent hasn’t always been like this, not in this fairytale spinoff. She grew up pure, but betrayal turns her heart to stone. “Since I was a little girl, Maleficent was always my favorite”, Angelina says. “I was terrified of her, but I was so drawn to her, and I wanted to know more about her, I wanted to know what she was like, and who she was. She had this elegance and this grace and yet she was so cruel and she was just wonderful, deliciously cruel.” However, not everyone felt the same: little kids who came to visit on set were frightened by the witch.

Angelina Jolie hasn’t acted since 2011, when she voiced Tigress in Kung Fu Panda 2. We suspect that her having kids makes her take on child-friendly roles, rather than the controversial ones that made her famous. She is currently filming Kung Fu Panda 3. Maleficent will be out on May 30, 2014.
