The singer pays homage to the 90s flick “Clueless”.
After days of hinting about her new music video in social media, Iggy Azalea‘s new song is finally out! Fancy features Charli XCX and it’s part of Iggy’s upcoming album, The New Classic. The best part about the video? It’s very much inspired by the 1995 high-school comedy Clueless! The cult movie tells the story of rich it-girl Cher Horowitz and her friends Dionne and Amber. The video was even shot at the same school that the movie was, and it compiles some of the most iconic moments of the flick (such as Alicia Silverstone/Iggy Azalea as Cher picking out outfits on her virtual wardrobe). In 2013, the movie also inspired Wildfox Couture for a collection, taking part in the revival of 90s fashion and bringing it to the attention of the new generation.
Iggy Azalea’s new album is thought to be released on April 14th as her debut studio album, and it’s already available for pre-order. The record will feature Iggy’s hits, “Work”, “Bounce” and “Change Your Life”, as well as “Fancy”. In an interview last year, Iggy stated: “The official date? F—ed if I know! It’s done, it’s so depressing to say this but it’s the beginning of March, it’s so far away but I just have to accept that. It was supposed to be October but obviously I’m going on tour with Beyonce and they said I’m not allowed to put an album out while I’m on tour because I’ll be trapped in Australia and I won’t be able to do any TV appearances and I thought that’s fair enough, that’s three weeks and then they said ‘You can’t put an album out around Christmas time, that’s a bad time’ and I said ‘What about January?’ ‘Well nobody gets back off holidays and then it’s the Brit Awards, you can’t release an album, it’s terrible for marketing’ which brings me to February. The marketing team gets to control me unfortunately, I don’t get to control that.”
The Australian rapper revealed that she wanted Alicia Silverstone to do a cameo in the video, but the actress couldn’t do it at the time. “Hopefully Alicia thinks that I did it justice,” she said.
